** Arnold's MIDI Player - by Arnaud Masson (amasson@planete.net) **
(FREEWARE)
A.M.P is a simple application that plays any MIDI file.
Just drag and drop a MIDI file on its icon and the song is played !
You can change instruments with popups and see notes flashing
and pitch bends moving in real time on the 16 channels.
A.M.P. need a Mac LC + system 7 (or better) and an external MIDI device
(or an AppleMIDIManager-to-QuickTime converter).
At startup in the first dialog you can choose between
two methods for sending MIDI instructions:
- through Apple MIDI Manager (in this case you need some extensions & drivers)
- direct to the MODEM port (serial RS232 port) (you don't need any extension)
I *think* both methods don't work with PowerMac (maybe the first one ???).
Another dialog allows you to translate MIDI instruments and channels:
- General MIDI -> General MIDI (no translation)
- General MIDI -> Yamaha PortaSound PSS780 (my brother's synthe)
If you need different translations, please tell me.
Notes:
- A.M.P. works also in background.
- if you try to open a bad MIDI file, your system will problably crash
and you will have to reboot.
